So, you’ve been bitten by the Airsoft bug. Now you need the gear and are looking for recommendations. I’ve spent hundreds of hours researching and testing some great (and not-so-great) Airsoft gear available. The gear I list here are battle-tested and I can recommend each wholeheartedly. I research, use or test the items I recommend. The gear listed here is not always necessarily high-end or the most expensive, but is good-quality durable gear. I like to recommend things that are affordable and do not make a sacrifice to quality.
When you are first getting started in Airsoft, you may not know a lot about the sport, how much it costs to get into, or what you will need out of the gate. It’s important, that you don’t end up spending your hard-earned cash on unnecessary items (because you thought you must have it) or gear of lesser quality simply because it was “cheaper”. As far as it relates to the expense side of breaking into a hobby or sport, Airsoft will have a cost associated with it. You will need to have some cash available in order to get going in the sport. Airsoft is not the most expensive sport until you start buying a lot of high-end gear and accessories to assemble the most awesome loadout on the face of the planet…
Starting out, you need not spend $700 on a weapon and accessories. It is, however, super important that you invest some money into protecting yourself with the proper protective gear, clothing, etc. Looking back, I remember when I first began to skirmish with friends. All I had was an Airsoft gun and BB’s. I didn’t “think” I would need some items. So, I kept my budget tight. I didn’t purchase goggles, headgear, or BDU’s. I wore a t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. Let me be the first to tell you that the wooded areas you skirmish can be just as unforgiving on bare legs and arms as the bb’s can. I am also very lucky that I never took a BB to the eyes. When it comes to your eyes, this is where you don’t want to rely on luck. You only have two of them and there are plenty of people out there who regret not having better protective gear on when they came off the battlefield.
Here is a compilation of the best recommendations I can put together.
